What is the difference between distance and displacement?

Distance is the scalar value of how far an object has traveled regardless of direction. Displacement is the value of how far an object has been displaced, meaning how far is it from where it started. In other words, distance is how far something goes no matter where it goes and displacement is how far it went from where it started. Heres an example; Say you hit a homerun and you run the bases, the distance is 90 to one base, when you reach home your distance is zero. Your right where you ended up.
